TuiNa

TuiNa

Also spelled Tuina and Tui na. This form of Chinese massage is often used in conjunction with Traditional Chinese Medicine, acupressure, shiatsu, tai chi, and qigong.

TuiNa is a way to bring balance to our body, mind, AND spirit. It is a form of Chinese Medical Massage that translates into "push/pull", "push/grasp", or as I learned "push-hands". It is similar to western massage in that the practitioner may rub, knead, roll, compress, and squeeze the muscles, tendons & ligaments to get the Qi moving. This is a unique way of moving stuck Qi through the 4 Gates (barriers) such as joints. In TCM this usually refers to elbows, shoulders, hips, and knees. We also use specific pointing (directing) techniques to concentrate or steam the Qi. There may be stretching of muscles, along with stimulation of the acu points, the heart center, and our spiritual center.

TuiNa dates back to the Han Dynasty 206 BC. It has made many transitions as its' practice spread to many countries. The style I practice is Qigong TuiNa which originated through the Liu family of China. The focus of this TuiNa is to cleanse the 5 organ spirits which will harmonize our heart with our true Universal Spirit. Another difference is that Qigong TuiNa pays special attention to the power of concentration and INTENTION (Yi). "One concentration takes place of ten thousand thoughts" Dr. Liu Dong.

The practitioner assesses the client's Qi and intends to balance it by listening to the body's response during the treatment, and focusing their mind (concentration) on directing the Qi. In Taoist massage the focus is not on treating an illness, but on connecting the Yuan Shen (universal spirit) with the human spirit, which will bring about true healing. Qigong TuiNa seeks to help you balance your emotional centers which allows you to have immense essential energy in life. When our emotions are in balance, our body is relaxed and we move through life much easier.

A session is done fully clothed. Please wear loose-fitting, comfortable clothes so I may move your limbs freely. Qigong TuiNa is calming, centering, and uplifting. Come and experience this unique form of healing massage.
