Now you have your new baby. It is just as important and needed for you to care for yourself after you give birth. Bodywork at this stage can help you physically, emotionally, and mentally recover from the demands of having a baby. It can take a good 2 months to physically recover from giving birth.
I can check for and help with:
- Seperation of the abdominal muscles called Diastasis Recti
- Abnormal pelvic tilt
- Gait and walking imbalances
- Sacral problems and pain
- Neck and shoulder strain
If you had a Cesarian Section, you will need more time to recover than with a vaginal birth. You may be experiencing more discomfort such as headaches, fatigue, dizziness, or be on prolonged bed-rest, and you will need additional rest and pain relief. Be cautious lifting anything over 5 lbs immediately after the surgery. Use pillows to support your baby when holding them. Have someone bring your baby to you, instead of you leaning over to pick them up. I offer some specific massage techniques to assist you in healing from a C-section.
I would like to mention that there is a difference between Post-partum Blues or Baby Blues and Post-partum Depression. If you think you are experiencing the latter, please contact your health care provider. If you would like to talk to me for clarification and resources please contact me right away. There is no shame in PPD and there is LOTS of HELP.
Give yourself some support for your hard work, and feel better. Foster your healthy family by giving yourself some much needed recovery time.
