Pregnancy CranioSacral Therapy and Bodywork

Pregnancy is a time of many changes to a woman’s body, her emotions, physical and mental stamina.  You deserve and need time and support for yourself.

Bodywork is not only key to helping you feel better, it can be essential in helping you cope with some of those changes that will be taking place.  A soothing craniaosacral session can relieve physical and emotional built-up tension, helping you to sleep better which is key to being healthy and refreshed.

Bodywork increases circulation and will bring much needed nutrients to your cells and remove metabolic toxins that make you feel tired. It also helps balance hormones as they change with each trimester allowing you to  keep feeling at your best.

Some specific symptoms bodywork is going to help you with as your pregnancy progresses.

  • Fatigue
  • Back pain
  • Poor posture
  • Heartburn, gas, constipation
  • Leg cramps
  • Pubic pain
  • Hip pain
  • Headaches
  • SI joint dysfunction and pain
  • Shoulder, mid-back pain
  • Swelling in legs, feet and hands
  • Carpel Tunnel Syndrome
  • Self esteem
  • Rib pains

Optimal Fetal Positioning and Birth Preparation

CranioSacral Therapy can be an integral part of preparing for labor.  As the space inside the uterus becomes fuller as baby grows, most babies will then find a good comfortable position. Usually they are positioned head down. This is termed OA or Occiput (back of head) Anterior. Some babies might present as OP (posterior) or OT (transverse) and not be able to find the best fit possibly due to the tightness of Mom’s tissues.
Spinning Babies to turn your baby, and CranioSacral Therapy
Bodywork can release restrictions in the muscles, connective tissue and ligaments so your body can do what it needs to do to help baby get in the optimal position for a vaginal birth.
There are also specific techniques which I can use to help create more room for baby to turn for a better birthing position.

If you are close to your due date and baby is in a transvers, OP or breech position, give me a call. If an external version has not created change, we can still do my techniques to make it easier for baby to transition.
If you are scheduled for an external version it would be beneficial to have my work done before in order to address the tight and restrictive tissues.

Ideally, regularly scheduled appointments throughout your pregnancy can keep tension minimal, help you become aware of how and why tension may increase and therefore, you learn how to release it quicker.  This can be a great benefit and boost of confidence for the delivery.

Postpartum and CranioSacral Therapy

Congratulations, now you have your baby!  It is just as important and needed for you to care for yourself after you give birth.  Bodywork and CranioSacral Therapy at this stage can help you physically, emotionally and mentally recover from the demands of giving birth.  Bodywork can give you some time to nurture yourself, get some needed rejuvenation
and rest. It can relieve tired and sore muscles, realign muscles and joints, take the stress out of your system so you can relax and enjoy this time with your new one.

Bodywork can begin as soon after birth as the new mom desires to help with:

  • Muscle fatigue
  • Low back pain
  • Hip pain
  • SI joint pain
  • Balancing of hormones
  • Rectus Diastasis - seperation of the abdominal muscles
  • Swelling in legs
  • Upper back and shoulder strain
  • Constipation
  • Rejuvenation

Teresa was wonderful during my pregnancy, she put me at ease about the changes my body was going through.  I always felt so relaxed after each session.  Barb H.,  Portland

As I got farther along in my pregnancy, my low back was so uncomfortable.  Each time I went to see Teresa I felt so much better. It took my stress away and I could enjoy my pregnancy so much more.   Kellie K,  Lake Oswego

I was already a client of Teresa’s before I got pregnant, so it was just natural to continue to see her throughout my pregnancy.  I always felt comforted by her massage and caring manor.  Sadie W. ,   Beaverton

I was 38 weeks and baby was transverse, I had an external version without change.  I saw Teresa one a Monday and baby turned and was born vaginally on Thursday.   Stella
